Is music "haram"?

Dear,
Do you like music? Is music a forbidden fruit to us? I wish to qoute here world  legendary musician, Beethovan: " Music is higher revelation than philosophy". May I add to Beethovan this also? ...But Gazal is the sweet flow in the profound river of philosopy.

Some believe music should be kept distance with us in the religious , cultural aspect. can we do ? what is your view ?
