KUTHUBI: A LEGENDARY PERSONALITY OF MALABAR

Shamsul ulama Kuthubi Muhammed Musliyar is a legendary personality,an Islamic scholar who lived in the middle of 20 the century in Malabar, India. The magnificent personality whom people depended as the last resort for their religious and social disputes.




Birth: Born in 1878 at Cheppilayam village (now A R Nagar), Koduvayoor, Malappuram District.

Father: Cherusalil Ahammed Musliyar, Koduvayoor


Studies: Preliminary studies done under Pocker Musliyar (F/o Sdakathulla Moulavi) at Thirurangadi Tharammal Masjid.


Then after, he learned under famous Islamic educational reformist, Moulana Chalilakath Kunhahammed Haji at Peringadi, Mahe. When Chalilakath was invited and took charge as the principal of Darul Uloom,Vazhakkad, famous Islamic learning centre founded by Koyappathudi Moyin Kutty Saheb, Kuthubi and his colleagues also moved to Darul Uloom to continue the study under Chalilakath.


‘Kuthubi’ is the call name given by his ustad,Chalilak Kunhi Ahammed Haji.


Followings are some of the co-learners of Kuthubi at Darul uloom:
K.M.Moulavi(Kathib),Cherusseri Ahammed Kutty Musliyar,Tharakkandy Abdul Rahiman Moulavi(F/o TK Abdulla, Jama-ath leader),etc..


After completion of learning from Darul Uloom, Kuthubi conducted ‘Dars’(High level religious school) in Panoor, Kannur dt. from 1924.


Kuthubi served as principal in Darul Uloom,Vazhzkkad ,same where he completed his study. Then after he served as Mudarris (religious teacher) in following places: Nadapuram juma masjid, Thanoor,and in a brief period Uppilath Masjid,Peringadi near his house where he married and settled.


SOME PROMINENT DISCIPLES OF KUTHUBI: Kanniyath Ahammed Musliyar(President,Samastha),Sadakathulla Moulavi (president,Samasthana Jam Eyyathul Ulama),Kaipatta Beeran Kutty Musliyar,Keezhana Kunbdulla Musliyar,Kangad Kunhabdulla Musliyar,Mujahid leader M C C brothers,E K Moulavi Kadavathoor,Prominenet Congress leader E Moidu Moulavi etc…


As an eminent religious leader, Samastha Kerala Jameyyatul Ulama (an Islamic scholars’ forum founded in 1924), sought opinion and final judgments (Fatwa) of Kuthubi for their decisions.


FAMILY: During his study in Peringadi,Mahe, he married Mariyam, a member belongs to Pulikkandy Family, Chokli. He bought plot namely Kattil Peedika in East Pallor,Chokli-Mahe and built house there.

Death: It was on the eve of a Bandh day all over Kerala, the legend personality passed away at night at his house in Chokli in 1966 .The body buried next day at the premises of the Madrassa built by himself (now Kuthubi Masjid). Even though every vehicle movement was stuck all over Kerala due to the intensity of bandh, it was a wonder that thousands & thousands of people including eminent scholars all over Malabar flowed to Chokli to see the last look and to attend the Janaza Prayer.

IS IT A RECORD ?

I am an admirer of Sachin. He is a man of records in cricket. He is roll model of children like me. He played cricket at his sixteen. He made cricket an event .He is the man of century. He won 39 century in test, 42century in one day cricket. He made 89 half century. He become man of the match 57 times and man of the series 13 times. He is a player who gained more runs-16361 in one day cricket. He is a first player who completed 10000 and 16000 runs match in one day match. More over I believe he is a prestige of India.


But I strongly oppose it is not consider as a record that he completed 12,000 runs in over all tests. It is not a wonder, but a normal thing, because it is due to his chances to play cricket for a long period. Suppose, if anybody who stay more time or long period in Gulf countries (like among one of you), they have get more chances to fly by aero planes. They have to return home once in a year, minimum.


Similarly, my father is working in school for a long period in Mahe and he should have to travel by bus regularly. Can we say he got record in bus journey? (Actually it is truth comparing our other family members).


So, dear news reporters don’t make us fool by reporting such normal things as a big record. How ever, We, the children, believe that Sachin is prestige of our country, Pls.inform yr suggestions.

Novel should be aesthetic but BARSA is lack of it

Is it a fashion for fame to modern women ?
Or expressing the real agony of them?

To become a liberal women in the modern society, is it

critisizing Islam and its common
concepts and dogmas, some of them are in the way of
declaring themselves that they are in the circle of Islam
but against commonly misunderstood Islamic dogmas.
Here a novel,BARSA, from malayalee muslim woman
writer,Kadeeja Mumtaz . Barsa means disclosed face.
In the novel she criticize purdha, so called gender
inequality in Islam, ignorance of woman feeling , she  says, especially when
Allah advice prophet Ebrahim to sacrifice his son
Ismail, without considering feeling of his mother,Hajara
. Why women not consider even as a human being ,she
asks in book and narrates the emotion and feeling of
Hajara as a mother .
But in aesthetical aspect, when I read the book I felt a
bore reading. It is a fact that one who read Kamala
Surayya’s short story, he will disappoint by reading this
book, in its artistic sense.
Sarroundings of the novel is a hospital inMecca and
heroin of the novel is a doctor practicing there who
recently came there from Kerala. I recommend to read
this book only in the basis that if you want know the
criticizing point of a Keralite Muslim Woman who dare
to do so.

It is unfortunate that young men among the new generation born and brought up in the midst of opportunities thanks to the progress of science and technology, become puppets in the hands of wily politicians and religious leaders who have ulterior designs. They brake their bones and shed blood in the name of innocuous text book. Do they know that there are academic books all over the world thousand times more harmful than the class 7th book.

Zoology text books teach evolution which says that man evolved from chimpanzees through mutation and super -activation of the gene prodynorphin

which is responsible for cognitive powers and superior intelligence of man.

This scientific theory strikes at the root of all religions. There was healthy controversy about the theory in Europe in the 19th century. But the vast the majority have accepted the theory and it led to the advance of biological and medical science.

In politics a handful of leaders may get upward mobility when thousands break their bones. Let our younger generation understand that life is more precious than some crumbs of political power. Let them wait for change of power through votes and democratic process in our democracy.

Scientists may have discovered an anti-obesity pill that could free dieters
from all eating restrictions and also help slow down the ageing process.
A study published in the journal,” Mechanism of ageing and Development, suggested that the pill may “lock in” the benefits of dieting, allowing dieters to return to normal eating with out putting on weight.
According to the researchers from Britain’s University of Liver Pool, the pill-a dietary supplement called Alpha Lipoic acid- also slows ageing, which is a known effect of low-calorie diets.
Malcolm Goyns, director of immorgene concepts, a scientific research company in Stockton-on tees, who led the reasearh,said he was sufficiently himself.
:Our discovery indicates that by following a calorie restriction diet for six months and taking Alpha-lipoic acid while eating normally, the same life extension effect will be experienced.” Goyns was quoted as saying by the Independent news paper on Thursday. How ever, he cautioned that by simply adding the supplement to the diet has no effect.
“It seems that alpha- lipoic acid fools the body into behaving as if it was still on what ever diet it was following before the supplement was added,” he said, adding “ we found there was an anti-obesity effect as well” The finding however, has parked a row between tow of the scientists who carried out the research, conducted in rats.over whether it can be applied to human being.
“It is an unusual and interesting finding and it needs repeating in further research. That was as far as I wasprepared to go,but Malcolm wanted apply it to human. I said I didn’t agree with his interpretation and we had to wait for further studies.” Said Brian Merry of the school of Biological science at British University.

HUMOUR is or should be a part of human life.” Laugh your worries away” is a familiar saying. Laughter provides an easy escape route for one’s pent up feelings. For a healthy body and mind it is quite essential as it rejuvenates and fills one with vigor and vitality. It propagates the message of health and joy and energizes one by relieving mental tension.

“Laugh and whole world laughs with you; snore and you sleep alone,” is the saying of Anthony Burgess. Mahatma Gandhi once said,” If I had no sense of humour I would long ago have committed suicide.” For a conductive teaching-learning situation, it is imperative that there should be a place for humour. A ready witted teacher with an abundant sense of humour, is student-friendly, than one who is moody and morose. A lesson taught with humour and more an appeal than one dull and dreary.Humour adds colour to teaching and promotes an innate interest in learning and makes it enjoyable and concrete.



SOME CLASS ROOM JOKES


We come across many incidents providing humor in our class room from the every ordinary to some striking and spontaneous ones. As one who has served the cause of education as a teacher and headmaster for nearly thirty years, I have a first hand knowledge of many. Here below I give sample of a few:


(1)” my little son is too sensitive,” said a mother bringing him to school for the first time. “Don’t worry! We’ll take care of him,” said the teacher .Added the mother,


” If he is naughty please don’t punish him. Just slap the boy next to him. That’ll frighten him and accomplish your purpose”.

(2) The mathematics teacher of third standard teaching the concept of addition and subtraction put a question to a pupil. ”Rasal, if one and one makes two, and two and two makes four, how much does four and four make?” The replay came from Rasal, ”that isn’t fair, sir. You answer the easy ones and leave the difficult one to me!”



(3)During a routine conversation, Kumar told his teacher, “Sir, my brother has trouble with appendicitis”. Teacher quite concerned asked, “Oh! Is he so ill?” Quick came the replay from Aneesh, “no sir, he can’t spell it “

(4) The science teacher during the cause of a lesson posed a question to a student to name any two major inventions that helped man get up in the world. Pat came the reply,” the alarm clock and the escalator, sir”.



(5) A teacher was onc annoyed with a pupil who was in the habit of giving same excuses for applying for leave. once when gave the reason as due to the death of his grand mother, the teacher got wild and asked if he had not applied for leave for the same reason the month before , the pupil calmly replied that on that occasion it was his maternal granny and now it is paternal.



(6) The mathematics teacher was teaching a lesson on the concept of time and distance. At the end of it, he put question to Mohan “A green lorry with a speed of 40 km take 60 minutes to reach a distance; a blue lorry with 35km speed 75 minutes and an yellow lorry with 30km speed 90 minutes . From this what do you understand?” I a flash, came the answer from Mohan,” All the Lorries should be painted green, sir”.


(7)The English teacher taking a lesson on “change of voice,” in functional grammar asked a student to change the voice of the verb in the sentence, “Rama killed Ravana”. The enthusiastic student in a split second repeated the statement of the teacher modulating his voice.

While performing his duty, a innocent teacher been assulated and
killed by aggressive muslim youth league workers in malappuram.
Couple of days ago they have burnt millions of worth books,supposed
to distribute to poor pupil, under the leadership of our former education
minister sooppy...
This is too brutal..muslim league party cannot survive without
power. their power thirst made them blind..they are using religion
as a weapon. but they are not aware of the consequences, far reachig problems of muslim existence, country like ours...unfortunately
socalled muslim groups (eg. jamaeth,mujahid) also knowingly or
unknowingly particpating with them..how can they justify their
agitation ? gov. had decided to reform the book.in democratic
system we should have democaratic culture. from the begining itself,
no reason for agitation against the book..remember, when mr c.h.
mohd koya was edu.minister, Umerfarook's carrekecher (spell?) was
appeared in tex book...no protest, no jihad, somebody pontedout and removed the page.
Muslim jihadi group must stop this baseless,illogical agitation with immideate effect. or they have to face the consequences...things
are changing,especially after the death of Mr.Agustine Joseph,
otherwise league leaders and turban group has to pay heavily...

What a Brutal Is This?

BOW OUR HEAD TO THE VICTIM OF
TEXT BOOK VANDALISM

Actually this is very shame in the history Kerala’s education scenario. An innocent teacher,James Augestin, who came punctually to attend teachers’ refreshment course(monthly cluster meeting) have unfortunately loss his life (for much criticized Jeevan) by the kick and suppress of Text Book Jihad mob (arrogant youth League).Mr.Ummen Chandy criticized Govt. for not deploying police force before every cluster meeting premises. In which sense he said this? Does he believe a democratic govt.could deploy police battalion in front of such academic event?


Teacher’ cluster meeting is entirely for teachers and by teachers. What is the role for political party mob or Youth League there? (What is the role of cat in gold market?)


Mr.Ummen Chandy and his colleague Mr Kunhali Kutty should have instructed their party men not to go there and make vandalism.


The 7th class text book is apt for our newly adopted academicals pedagogy. Besides,Govt. had appointed expert committee to reform the book and as per its and curricular committee’s recommendations Govt. has readied to revise the book.


In this circumstance, every one can understand the motive of anti book agitation again. That is to create feeling in minority that if the 7th class book exists, “the religions will be in danger” and to exploit religious communities for their political motive


But what happened finally by the “martyr” of a teacher? Leadership of the League may assess this agitation get them gain or loss. But my humble request to the leaders of non political Muslim Organizations to abstain and end co-operation from this politically motivated or misunderstood agitation for the sake of Islam.

Expert Committee's suggestion is not a Surrendering

The Text book expert committee's suggestion or recommendations are to be welcomed. because it has been constituted by Government and it constis Experts to clear  and to make  the book most suitable to attain carricular objects, at the same time considering the  genuine complaints from  the societiy. The authority  never claimed the book is 100 percent perfect. So that govt. formed the ex.pert committee.It is also a culture of democricy.
But , our opposition parties' aim is another one.I believe , actually they are not took the spirit of its acadamic aspect, modern learning pedogogy etc.

Fine, if there is a recommendation from the committee to remove this lesson from the text book, then, this should be seen in the context of the mayhem created by
all religious bodies, communal and the secular parties alike out of political vendetta
This may not change the basic issues which were highlighted by many progressive writers in this forum. This may not mean that Mr Wahab kp or me are going to propagate or promote mixed marriages and call for a 'Jihad' toward this or would set an example ourselves !
What we were trying to highlight was the need to have tolerance, acceptability, pluralistic thinking and multi cultural co-existence
There would be many who are strongly believing in these lines and India being a secular country need to incorporate some kind of secular thinking process in the educational environment without hurting any particular religious sentiments which the Kerala Education ministry did not do in this context
As I said earlier, we are still teaching Darwin and the Origin of species in our schools which is a direct attack on all established religions as Islam, Christianityor Hinduism consider this as the case for our origin !

All religions have shown a tolerance here and what we need is the same kind of acceptance in other areas
We have a well established Madarasa system which will definitely take care of all "Kufriyaths' taught in our modern schools !

INDIAN LEFT SHOWED ITS IDENTITY

What ever the benefit or trap in the Indo-US nuclear treaty, my opinion is that it is great thing that once again Indian Left wing showed its political identity by withdrawing support from Congress led Government. Formerly, left dared to give support to form congress government with the view that Fascist Hinduism’ let not to rule India. That was also their strong commitment on secularism and its beneficiaries is minority community in India, especially Muslims.
In this aspect, it is very thinkable how we can analyze the stand and plays of Muslim League which is everything under a ‘religious’ and spiritual leader. We all blame Left because of their secular, materialistic, and non religion (mathamillatha Jeevan) view.
You say, who is useful to minority and who stand with minority issues and their worries. Is it League or Left?
And which leaders exploit poor minority (muslim) members, League’s or Left’s?
I think, League leaders are not aware about the consequence of Indo-Us nuclear treaty or perhaps they have no any idea about “123 agreement” or “Hydel Act”. When Left was very seriously involving in discussion and arguments against signing up of treaty and giving warning to Central govt., our League leaders are making jihad agitation in Kerala against 7th class book without reading its single page .( it is another story, in fact it is not anti Islam, but in my opinion, it is very pro Islamic: because it promulgate the student for more reading about religions like Islam, ultimately it gains Islam)
At the beginning Left Party warned Govt. not go with nuclear treaty with US because US has always their own imperialistic agenda. Is anybody believed US aim is India’s nuclear development? Contrary, it is said that many traps are in the agreement, among one is to make India’s participation or inaction in US’s proposed Iran aggression.
To make treaty with India US amended section 123 of ‘American Atomic
Energy Act-1954’. (Commonly call 123 agreements)
Beside, to get approval for 123 amendment from Americans a US senator Henry Joseph Hyde presented and passed a bill in American congress ‘Us-India Peaceful Energy Co-operation Act’ (commonly call “Hyde act”.
There are so many section in this act which ignores India supremacy and India’s liberal foreign policy.(*let’s discuss later what are they).
In this context I am very proud about left for their reaction against our govt’s treaty with this imperialistic, anti Islamic power.
At the same time I ashamed with the stand of our’(Muslim)League’ keeping tightly its single minister in power without using
an international opportunity to show its pride and response to oppressed muslims in the world especially in the middle East.

Amidst in the busiest involment in mobilising muslim 'umma' for a jihadi agitation in Kerala against 7 the class text book and collecting books for burning purposes, our Muslim League leaders have been annoyed by some medea persons asking some unwanted questions:
"What is your party's policy about Indo-Us nuclear Treaty?", and "Do your party's ministership quit,if govt. go with the treaty?" or "do you stand against Govt like Left has did?"
To answer these question league leader compelled to gather for a meeting in its leader's residence yesterday.
While they are taking food,some discussion was going on:
Thangal asked to E Ahammed: " Ahamedsahib, What is 123 agreement?"
Ahammed replied: "that is very simple, it is about 3 steps. 1 is the unwanted crisis aginst our ministership (quit or continue), and 2 is about a crucial desicion by our questionable leader, Thangal, and 3 is your decision as usual to continue in ministership with a strong hold".

Thangal noded his head with a smile and started to pray by saying "Al fathiha".
Then every thing ok. Media persons rounded Kunhalikutty for briefing.
(Na oodu billa, I believ thangal is innocent person)

There was also a conversation between Thangal and Kunhali Kutty also:
Thangal asked him: "Yella, Kunhali Kutty sahib, What is hide(Hyde) act?
Kunhalikutty replied: In English hide means covering up or keep secret every thing
from public like me in the ice creame incident".
Thangal again smiled appreciating the ability of Kunhalikutty who over took Goerge Bush
and wispered:"Avan Puliyaanu Kettaa.."

7th std book

The row over the 7th standard text book in Kerala is politically motivated by some unacademic politicians. Some political parties only interested in their political gains and not bother about the academic aspect of our schooling. They criticised the book even without reading and understandin the curricular object in the lesson. They must know that the new education pedagogy adopted in Kerala is most innovative inwhich students themselves create knowledge by understanding the situations and evident from the experiment dine by them. Teachers are only fecilitating them for such expiriments and finding outs. In this methode student discusse by group and interact their ideas and create knoledge. Student, unlikely our conventional methode,are not puppets whispering what they hearing from teachers.
This is child centered education not teachers centered like usual type.
Unknowing these devolopment in Kerala's education system, some irrogant political party criticise and disagree with new methodology in our education system which implemnted after long and profound thinking and discussions by able innovative persons with a wide social concept.
This controversy opened a new chapter in Kerala. Some Panchayath dared even to ban this text book in school in their jurisdiction.( Kalpakanchery Panchayath authoritis passed a resolution to ban the book in studying this book) They victimised a politiacal consipiracy even without reading the chapter in the text book.
KeralaGovernment instituted a committee to reviw the book and to suggest what ever in the book as anti academic and anti religion, more anti progress of our society. But our opposition party not willing to cooperate with them without reading of hte book. Their motive is another thing than education of our children.

It is unfortunate that young men among the new generation born and brought up in the midst of opportunities thanks to the progress of science and technology, become puppets in the hands of wily politicians and religious leaders who have ulterior designs. They brake their bones and shed blood in the name of innocuous text book. Do they know that there are academic books all over the world thousand times more harmful than the class 7th book.
Zoology text books teach evolution which says that man evolved from chimpanzees through mutation and super -activation of the gene prodynorphin
which is responsible for cognitive powers and superior intelligence of man.
This scientific theory strikes at the root of all religions. There was healthy controversy about the theory in Europe in the 19th century. But the vast the majority have accepted the theory and it led to the advance of biological and medical science.
In politics a handful of leaders may get upward mobility when thousands break their bones. Let our younger generation understand that life is more precious than some crumbs of political power. Let them wait for change of power through votes and democratic process in our democracy.
